Common colds affect us all at some point or another, especially as the winter months draw in.

CAUSES
Bacteria are the primary cause of the common cold. The reason colds occur more during the winter due to a higher intake of catarrh forming foods such as white bread, meat, porridge and puddings.
DIAGNOSIS
The common cold is usually self-diagnosed. However if your symptoms are persistent or severe please visit your Ayurvedic practitioner or health practitioner.
AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
Ayurveda treats the common cold as an imbalance of the Kapha dosha. Through prescriptive dietary and lifestyle changes you can relieve the symptoms more quickly and reduce your susceptibility to colds.
LIFE STYLE CHANGES
Use common sense in your day-to-day lifestyle. Eat regular, freshly-prepared meals each day. Get plenty of rest – try to go to bed at 10pm each night if possible.
When you are ill keep warm, eat plenty and keep the body covered with warm clothes.
YOGA & BREATHING
Some yoga asanas that can help when you are suffering from a cold include Locust (salvasana); Cobra (Bhujangasana); Bow (Dhanurasana).

HOME REMEDIES

About 10 gm of ginger should be cut into small pieces and boiled in a cup of water. It should then be strained and half a teaspoon of sugar added to it. |

For dry cough, take 10gm of ground dry ginger, cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon with rock candy or sugar with honey or warm water twice a day after meals. |

One teaspoon of onion juice should be mixed with one teaspoon of honey of honey and kept for four or five hours- it will make an excellent cough syrup and should be taken twice daily. |
